The Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Field Surgery was created in 1968. In the department of education of teaching Traumatology and Orthopedics conducted at the Department of Surgery, classes were conducted by the Department professor D. Kurmashev Hahutov. In postwar years to 1968, Orthopedics and Traumatology for courses Orthopedics and Traumatology were headed by a professor Slusar A. and assistant, MD Kucherenko A.E.
Numerous subjects were conducted at the Department of Hospital Surgery (Head of Department, Professor. Shraer I.I., prof. V. Danilenko), with a Traumatology and Orthopedics course headed by lecturers Slusar A. and O.E.Kucherenko.
In 1969 within the faculty worked an assistant professor Kirilenko A.V., assistant Chepyzhnyy Y. U., assistant Chupryna I. A. and V. V. Slepov, with an assistant Shevchuk V. I., Fyschenko V. A., Zhuk P. M. Since 1985 the Department has been headed by Kirilenko A.V. who worked as a chairman until 1991. Since 1991, Stolyarchuk V.S. was a head. In addition to staff at the department there worked assistants Kirichenko V.I., Adamenko V. I. and Kisel C.
In 1994 the department chair was held by prof. Fyschenko Vladimir Aleksandrovich. Chairman was born 14 September 1956. In 1979, he graduated from Vinnytsia Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov. After graduating from the Kiev Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics in 1986, he finished scientific work SUMMARY “Inborn and Obtained Talipomanus in Children and Adolescents”. In 1993 year, he defended doctorate Annotation on “Born Injurious Shoulder Plexus in Children and Adolescents”. He is an author of 123 works and co-author of two textbooks and monographs.

The department constantly trains doctors of India, Peru, Columbia, Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen.
Vicar of the department worked in countries of Asia, Africa, Algeria, Yemen, where given medical aid to the population those countries conducted Competencies medical staff (Assoc. Stolyarchuk V.S. Assoc. Slepov V.V.,Chepyzhnyy Y.A. , Pryschak A.F.).
The main principle of the department is reconstructive treatment of joints diseases, problems osteoporosis and bone plastics. Assistants of the department published more than 500 works, 20 copyright patents, about 100 newspapers, 4 monographs and 10 methodological recommendations.
In recent years at the Department Candidates of Science have graduated: doctor of Yemen – Karim Abdul, aspirants: Kasyanchuk V. M., Makohonchuk A. V., Mytskevych A. A., Maiko V. M., Filatov A. Chairman of Department, Professor Fyschenko V. A. headed scientific association of traumatology and orthopedics. The main tasks of the department are improvement of new treatment methods of traumatological diseases and musculoskeletal apparatus, improvement of the quality of treatment, training doctors, specialists, featuring pedagogical processes of training students of the department..
The department has all necessary conditions for the teaching process: traumatological department at 40 sites, offices and Rehabilitation Research Institute of disability.
Scholar activity the department is as follows:
- Epidemiology osteoporosis, its role in injury treatment and prophylactic.
- Major joints pathology, treatment, endoprosthetics.
- Functional pathological reorganisation and musculoskeletal apparatus.
The department holds individual speeches with students and works at the student scientific circle which gives an opportunity for students to obtain additional knowledge in Traumatology and Orthopedics and become involved in scientific work.
