After the liberation of Vinnytsia from the Nazi occupiers in 1944, a clinical campus was organized in the suburbs of Pyatnychany to teach clinical subjects to 5th year students. The hospital surgical clinic had 50 beds.
Initially, the clinic was headed by Assoc. I. P. Callistov, and then prof. M. O. Blagovischensky.
Almost at the same time, demobilized from the army, having vast experience of operations during the war, N. V. Zavadska, M. B. Ostrovsky, G. D Lerner, J. W. Slusar, V. I. Surish, V. V. Metelitska came to the clinic.
In 1950, the department was transferred to the 2nd city hospital on Voroshilov street, in a room with 80 beds. In addition, the clinic included the orthopedic department of the regional hospital named after Pirogov (curator — Assoc. Prof. Y. V. The range of surgical interventions has expanded, the conditions for the use of modern diagnostic methods and the conditions for the educational process have improved.
The head of the thoracic department was I. I. Mityuk who collaborated with the chief surgeon of the regional health department.
In connection with the appointment of prof. M. V. Danylenko to the position of rector of the Lviv Medical Institute in the 1964-1965 academic year, the department was headed by Assoc. I. F. Perepelytsya. There were other personnel changes: Ts. K. Borzhievsky and O. A. Lukashenko, transferred from the Department of Faculty Surgery Assoc. P. H. Gaiduk.

In addition to treatment, the educational process has significantly improved, enough attention was paid to the work of the scientific surgical circle.
In February 1975 the department was headed by prof. І. І. Mityuk. The study of the volume of teaching in the program of hospital surgery showed that the existing profile of the clinic’s departments does not meet its objectives. Therefore, in coordination with the health authorities, the clinic was relocated from the 2nd hospital to the regional hospital named after M. I. Pirogov.
