The course of Basic Stomatology as an independent structural unit at the Department of Hospital Surgery of the Medical Faculty of Vinnytsia Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov was founded more than 40 years ago. The first head of the course was an outstanding scientist, Honored Inventor of Ukraine, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of Fundamentals of Dentistry, Department of Surgery No. 2 of Vinnytsia National Medical University named after M. I. Pirogov, veteran of labor, dental surgeon of the highest category, Pshenichny Mykola Fedorovych.
After graduating from the Kyiv Medical Institute in 1954, M. F. Pshenichny worked for some time as the head of the Verbsk district health department of the Rivne region, then as the deputy chief physician for medical work. The staff of the hospital was young, friendly and worked selflessly. Mykola Fedorovych mentioned the team and work as the best period of his life when he gained practical experience in medicine.
Mykola Fedorovych did not stop there. He then studied at the Kiev Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians, graduated from clinical residency. In 1960 he was sent by the Ministry of Health to the Vinnytsia Regional Health Department and was appointed as a head of the maxillofacial department of the Vinnytsia Regional Clinical Hospital named after M. I. Pirogov. While working in this position, he was engaged in scientific work, wrote and defended his dissertation in 1967. At the same time, he served as a chief dentist of the regional health department. In 1965 he began to invent and innovate, to which he devoted many years. He has made more than 100 inventions and 150 innovations. For more than 20 years he worked as the chairman of the regional society of dentists, organized and held more than 12 regional conferences and took part in the congresses of dentists of Ukraine. He was awarded the honorary title and awarded the gold medal of the Association of Dentists of Ukraine.
For more than 40 years he worked at Vinnytsia Medical University as an assistant, associate professor and head of the dentistry course. Mykola Fedorovych gave all his strength, health and experience to the development of medicine and student education, published more than 75 scientific papers, published a book “Ubiquitous Spiral” on the circular motion of liquids in the spiral channels of plants and animals and left a mark in space biology.
On March 3, 2003 and up to this date, Oleksiy Mykhailovych Likhitsky, Candidate of Medical Sciences, is working on the basics of dentistry course at the Department of Surgery No. 2. Since 2005 he is an Associate Professor, since 2009 — the Head of the course of basics of dentistry of the Department of Surgery No. 2 of VNMU.
